If you’ve been following our Instagram feeds (and if you don’t, you’re missing out) [this is mine and here is Sabrina’s] you know that we’ve both been participating in the weeklong campaign #StandUpForAAPI. In one of Santa’s (Sabrina-it’s her nickname and IYKYK) posts, our friend Shannon asked for Asian book recommendations.

Well, I doubt she wanted a full blog post- but hey I’m me and I’ll take an innocent IG comment, spin it and give you a written, fully edited, designed and formatted post. In other words I’m extra.

Sooo… here we are!

A quick word (okay paragraph): the events in Atlanta last week were a devastating wake up call. Ever since COVID entered our reality, hate crimes against the Asian American community have been on the rise. It is SO disappointing that such an atrocity has to happen to grab our attentions. As I said in my Instagram post, we, as a people, should do better, need to do better and can do better.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

    Posts like this are my favorite! I’m always looking to discover new authors and y’all actually mentioned a few of my favorites here! Of course, I’m basic with my love for Jenny Han and Kevin Kwan’s books (at this point, I have yet to meet anyone who *doesn’t* like To All the Boys and Crazy Rich Asians haha), but I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed Helen Hoang’s books (specifically The Bride Test) and I’ve had David Yoon’s books on my list ever since falling in love with his wife’s work! I can’t wait to check out even more of these titles! 🙂

    Yay! I see Joy Luck Club was one of the recommendations. Joy Luck Club is one of my favorite Amy Tan novels. I cried when I first watched the movie and again when I read the book.

    I’ve been meaning to read David Yoon’s Frankly in Love. Was there anything in particular that stands out about why it’s a recommended read?

    That graphic is so cuuuute! I’ve only read To All the Boys I Loved Before off this list, but one of my favourite Asian authors is Celeste Ng. Her books are just so beautifully crafted and it really feels you’re a part of the story.

    This is a great post! I have heard of a lot of these but haven’t had the chance to read them. I think this will definitely give me a boost to get some of these on my tbr very soon!
