8-ish fatal and funny reads to add to your TBR

Now before anyone gets their panties in a wad (I can see all the angry DMs now: MURDER ISN’T FUNNY!), I agree, murder is definitely not funny. I LOVE to laugh- I am the person that will laugh at a funeral… like I know it’s a solemn occasion, but I CAN’T HELP IT. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten trouble for being facetious. If you’re like me, you enjoy a bit of gallows humor and a mystery with laughter is your cup of (poisoned) tea, keep reading to see the 8-ish fatal and funny reads to add to your TBR.

1. The Finlay Donovan series by Elle Cosimano

If you haven’t read the Finlay series, what are you waiting for? It is an absolutely hilarious tale of mistaken identities, delightful characters, shenanigans of all kinds, the Russian mob and a few dead bodies of course. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, Minotaur and MacMillan Audio for my gifted copies.

2. My Killer Vacation by Tessa Bailey

This rec is SPICY- so if that isn’t for you, steer clear. If it is, you’ll enjoy this chaotic tale about a scary bounty hunter that’s brought to his knees by a sunshine-y school teacher as they investigate a murder. I love this mashup of a rom-com and whodunit.

3. The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year and The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter

Another recommendation that focuses on the romance element (I know some of you don’t want that), BUT it balances with a murder mystery to perfection. While there are some steamy scenes, there is NO open door spice. TMWCotY was a 5 star locked room mystery for me last year!

4. A Serial Killer’s Guide to Marriage by Asia Mackay

Samantha Downing’s My Lovely Wife meets any domestic novel. This one might seem dark, from the reviews I’ve read, it’s more funny than thriller. It’s full of chaos, sarcasm, and unhinged characters.

5. Every time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies by Catherine Mack

The footnotes aspect in this one is perfection! I loved the scenery and wanted to throw one of the characters off a very high cliff with sharp rocks at the bottom. And the sequel is coming soon!

6. The Aunties series by Jesse Q. Sutanto

To be honest, I’ve only read the first in the series (Dial A for Aunties), but I loved it! The family is of Chinese and Indonesian descent and I related to Meddy so much that it was kind of scary (I’m Chinese/Filipino). Sutanto’s Vera Wang’s Guide to Snooping on a Dead Man series is also hilarious and the MC is older which is refreshing.

7. The Ruinous Love trilogy by Brynn Weaver

Ok, this one is DARK. The others have been somewhat lighter, but this trilogy is dark. Dark humor, dark romance, dark everything. Have I mentioned that it’s dark?

8. A Serial Killer’s Guide to San Francisco by Michelle Chouinard

Say hello to my current read! I’m loving this one so far, I’ve smiled a lot and even laughed out loud once. I will report back when I’ve read more.
