THE HITCHCOCK HOTEL review and feature by Stephanie Wrobel

Thank you to Berkley Publishing and PRH Audio for my copies!

THE HITCHCOCK HOTEL by Stephanie Wrobel was a typical psychological thriller with some classic twists, veins of dark academia and of course Hitchcockian suspense.

Let me tell you now, one part of it relied HEAVILY on a trop I cannot stand. I was rather enjoying it for 50% then it slowly started clueing me in and by the 65% mark, I almost threw the book. I skimmed the rest of the book, I actually would have DNF-ed it, but I did enjoy the atmosphere it created.

It was a great fall read, the chapters weren’t exactly short, but they contained lots of twist and turns that kept me turning pages. I am a sucker for a group of friends reuniting plot line (although, that almost always means that it’s gonna have an affair or two and I CAN’T ABIDE CHEATING). And the flashbacks to the friends college days had a definite dark academia feel.

I’m not an avid Hitchcock fan, but his movies are classic thrillers. There were definite odes to his popular movies, The Birds, Strangers on a Train, Vertigo, North by Northwst and of course, Psycho. The setting was chilling and very fall-esque.

Overall, I am a huge fan of Wrobel’s writing and THE HITCHCOCK HOTEL was no exception! The pacing teetered between slow and fast and really built up the suspense. There is a trope that I wish I knew about before I read it (I won’t mention it here because it is kinda a spoiler because the plot does rely on it), but despite that it was a good fall read!
